About My Journey as a Truck Driver

With 19 years of experience, I share my insights on working at Penske Logistics, showcasing the rewarding aspects of being a truck driver in today's logistics industry.

Getting to where I am in my career was hard, but it doesn't need to be for you.

In 2006 I began my trucking career with Covenant Transport. I ran teams pulling dry vans and reefers coast to coast. I did that for about 6 years as both a company driver and as a lease operator.

In 2012 I started my "dream job" with Vanity Fair driving in their private fleet, VF Jeanswear. The pay was amazing and I was home on every weekend. I thought I would retire with this company. I was 28 years old and had only been with the company for 7 months when they closed our terminal in Tupelo, MS.

So in 2013 I decided I had enough of the OTR life. I applied to and was hired by UPS Freight (now known as TForce Freight) as a local PnD driver. And after a few years with them, I was in top out pay and had once again found my "dream job". Then in the spring of 2022, I chose to move back home to Cleveland Ohio. I knew that in doing so I would lose all of my seniority, but I was feeling a very strong pull to come home.

And as expected in the fall of 2022 I was laid off. Even though I had known it would probably happen before I moved, it still stung. But, I knew I was in a good position to apply for a new job. After some hunting, several interviews, and road tests. I decided that I would give Penske Logistics a chance. And I am so happy I made that choice!

At Penske Logistics I have found a real dream job! I'm home every day while working for a group of people who make me feel valued. My pay is more than I have ever made. I have made six figures for both my first and second years with Penske and am on track to do it again in my third year! Also, the work stress compared to previous jobs is practically non existent!
